From Radio to Podcasts With Norman Pattiz

Norman Pattiz has recently added a new network, PodcastOne, to his list of media achievements. Coming from over 40 years of experience in broadcasting, Mr. Pattiz is responsible for Westwood One and Courtside Entertainment Group. He quickly recognized the untapped podcast market and launched PodcastOne in 2012. Today the network hosts a number of celebrities including Adam Carolla, Shaquille O’Neal, Steve Austin, Dr. Drew, and a more. In addition to celebrities, PodcastOne is home to famous shows like WNYC’s Radiolab, Freakonomics, and over 200 other popular podcasts.

 

Mr. Pattiz credits his creation partially to his meeting with Kit Gray, who was already representing several individual podcasts. He quickly saw the opportunity and created PodcastOne. He is still excited about the four-year adventure stating that no day is ever the same. He is hands on with all aspects from finding talent, generating ads, and dealing with technology. Westwood One is famous for providing news, sports, talk radio, entertainment, and traffic updates. The network also owns, manages, and distributes a huge number of popular stations such as NBC radio, CBS News, CNN radio, NFL, NCAA, the Olympics, and more.

 

Norman Pattiz was selected by President Clinton to serve on the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) for the United States of America. Norman was later reappointed by President Bush to the same position. The BBG is responsible for all US nonmilitary broadcasting including “The Voice of America”, “Radio Free Europe”, “Radio Liberty”, and a number of other broadcasts. Mr. Pattiz later created and launched America’s Arabic Language radio and TV services to the entire Middle East; a total of 22 countries. He also created a Farsi-language broadcast directed at Iran reaching an audience of over 40 million.

 

Mr. Pattiz has a diverse educational background in addition to his achievements in broadcasting. He serves as a Regent of the University of California, Chairman of Lawrence Livermore, and on the board of the National Securities Laboratories in Los Alamos. Mr. Pattiz has been a member of the Council of Foreign Relations for a number of years and was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2009.
